Mauricio Soto, PhD

Global R&D Artificial Intelligence Program Manager· mau@ieee.org

Hello, and welcome to my page. My name is Mauricio Soto, doctor in computer science and artificial intelligence researcher, I grew up in Costa Rica, the land of sloths, coffee, and Pura vida! I got my PhD and Masters from the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (mythical sound of bagpipes in the background), and before that, I studied Computer Science and Music at the University of Costa Rica. I work as a Machine Learning R&D Engineer with an amazing team at Hitachi Energy located in Raleigh, NC home of the Research Triangle, the Great Smoky Mountains, and our national treasure: Bojangles.
Previously, I worked in several companies and universities as a Research Scientist, Software Engineer, Justin Bieber Body Double, among others. I am a very happy person, I play the saxophone, and I love salsa. Some say I'll be the next Bad Bunny, but who knows, only time will tell.

Apart from being a researcher, music is a big part of my life. Check me out!
These are some groups I have played with:

I also love to create adventures with my beautiful wife, my daughter, and my dog: Building a fort, outdoor concerts, water balloon fights, traveling around the world, home improvements, and many many more :)
